RIA Accessibility with... the iPhone?

So, yesterday I was sitting at my desk working on the socket server for my accessibility solution... and I had a little Thomas Edison moment.

I kept thinking that it would be nice if I already had a piece of hardware that got me 80% of the way there - then it happened buzzed... my iPhone that is.

"Hello? Yeah... thank you but no - I don't need to extend my car warranty..." Edison would be rolling in his grave... sheesh!

Earlier in the day I had been reading some of the 3.0 SDK release notes on the Apple Developer website and came across the External Accessory Framework. I thought it would be interesting to pickup later... bookmarked it and got back to writing some code.

Fast forward to that evening... just after the call. After a couple quick Google's I ended up on the Engadget website reading their coverage on the 3.0 SDK preview event. At a little more than half way down you'll notice the blood pressure cuff plugged into the iPhone... I initially, knowing Engadgets/Gizmodos love of Photoshop, dismissed it... but there it was in front of me - the EAF at work.

Sweet.

All we're missing is some Text To Speech love... of which I've seen a bit of in the app store. A little more sleuthing and I ended up on The Acapela Group website.

There you have it folks - exactly what I was asking for. The really exciting part (for me) is that a few of the features that hit the cutting room floor for a first cut were back in the mix - namely a closed captioning solution. I'll be releasing the cross-platform socket and policy file server September 15th.
